Dear Staunton Families, This communication is to inform you one individual at Staunton Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19. We are coordinating our efforts with the Macoupin County Health Department to promptly identify and monitor individuals who have had recent contact with the COVID-19 positive individual to prevent further spread within our school and community. At this time, any students and staff who have had close contact with the COVID-19 individual have been contacted separately and informed that they are restricted from all district activities for the quarantine period. This message is intended to inform parents of students who attend Staunton Elementary School and explain that they are at low risk of transmission due to our school mitigation strategies and procedures. Those persons who exhibit symptoms should contact their health care provider to determine if testing is needed. District 6 administration has contacted the Macoupin County Health Department to inform them of this positive test. In any situation where there is a positive test, we will strictly follow all guidelines and orders from the Macoupin County Health Department for isolation/quarantine before allowing the COVID-19 positive individual to return to the school. We are committed to providing our students and staff with a safe and healthy environment. We appreciate your ongoing cooperation with our COVID-19 procedures as we work to help protect all our students and staff at Staunton Elementary School. Be safe, Cynthia Tolbert, Superintendent

Staunton Families: The Illinois Department of Public Health recently updated their guidelines on October 13th for any individuals showing symptoms for COVID-19 and the documentation needed to return to school. We will be following these newly updated guidelines effective immediately. The new guidelines include: -Medical Evaluation and Testing are strongly recommended for ALL Persons with COVID Like Symptoms. -Send home or deny entry (and provide remote instruction) if ANY of the following symptoms are present: Fever (100.4°F or higher), new onset of moderate to severe headache, shortness of breath, new cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain from unknown cause, new congestion/runny nose, new loss of sense of taste or smell, nausea, fatigue from unknown cause, muscle or body aches. -Negative COVID-19 test OR a Healthcare provider’s note indicating the negative COVID test result. -If testing is not performed due to the clinical judgment of the healthcare provider, a medical note is needed to return to school documenting that there is no clinical suspicion for COVID19 infection and indicate an alternative diagnosis with exclusion consistent with this diagnosis. -After a 10 day exclusion, a note from a parent/guardian documenting that the ill student and/or household contacts are afebrile without fever reducing medication and symptoms have improved.
