Dear Staunton Families, Today, Tuesday, January 9th, 2024, the Staunton School District received a threat towards school personnel who are no longer employed with the district. The Staunton Police Department was immediately contacted and began working in conjunction with administration to ensure the safety and security of students and staff. It was quickly determined by law enforcement that there was not an immediate threat or danger to students and staff at school, and the School District has been able to continue operating as normal and will dismiss students as normal. However, out of an abundance of caution, all extracurricular practices and activities scheduled for this evening are canceled. The events will be rescheduled. School operations will run as normal tomorrow, Wednesday, January 10th, 2024. The School District will continue to work closely with local law enforcement officials to ensure student and staff safety. As always, we appreciate your support for the Staunton School District. Sincerely, Staunton Schools Administration

Feb. 22 from 6-7 p.m is a mandatory parent/player meeting in the multi for anyone who did not attend the meeting in the fall and is planning on participating in a sport this spring. You may NOT participate until you have attended a meeting. If you attended one this fall, then you do not need to attend a second one.

January 4, 2024 Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students, As we move into the second semester, please make every effort to make attendance a priority. The second semester is a busy time with Illinois State required testing, PROM, graduation, promotion, etc. We want to make sure that students are in school and preparing to close out the year in a positive manner. The district also receives a portion of our overall rating from the state from student attendance. If possible, please schedule doctor appointments and vacations to a time that does not interfere with your student being able to attend their classes. We understand that situations arise and we do not want you to send your child to school if they are suffering from illness. We are excited to work with families and students for a successful completion to the school year and we are requesting your cooperation helping with your children’s success by having them be present for the second semester. Thank you for your continued efforts and support of the Staunton School District. #LeadChallengeAchieve Sincerely, Staunton School Administration

Mainstreet Bridal in Carlinville has partnered with local School Districts to assist those in need in obtaining a Prom Dress. They will be taking Prom dress donations during the months of January and February that are less than 3 years old. All those who donate will get a $50 credit from us towards a Prom dress of their choice with us. Then the donated gowns will be placed in a special area of our shop and we will have those girls that need a free dress come and shop the donated dresses on select Sundays, when our store is not open to the public, during March and April.

We are seeing an uptick in student absences compared to last year at this same time. While we do not encourage your child to come to school sick, we do encourage them to be in attendance. The State of Illinois allows 10 excused absences per school year. Anything beyond that can result in truancy referrals. When students aren't in the building, they miss information, assignments, and assessments. We have noticed that many of those students who are absent frequently have lower grades and academic performance. #LeadChallengeAchieve
