Dear Staunton Families, This communication is to inform you one individual at Staunton Elementary School has tested positive today for COVID-19. We are coordinating our efforts with the Macoupin County Health Department to promptly identify and monitor individuals who have had recent contact with the COVID-19 positive individual to prevent further spread within our school and community. At this time, any students and staff who have had close contact with the COVID-19 individual have been contacted separately and informed that they are restricted from all district activities for the quarantine period. This message is intended to inform parents of students who attend Staunton Elementary School and explain that they are at low risk of transmission due to our school mitigation strategies and procedures. Those persons who exhibit symptoms should contact their health care provider to determine if testing is needed. District 6 administration has contacted the Macoupin County Health Department to inform them of this positive test. In any situation where there is a positive test, we will strictly follow all guidelines and orders from the Macoupin County Health Department for isolation/quarantine before allowing the COVID-19 positive individual to return to the school. We are committed to providing our students and staff with a safe and healthy environment. We appreciate your ongoing cooperation with our COVID-19 procedures as we work to help protect all our students and staff at Staunton Elementary School. Take care, Cynthia Tolbert, Superintendent

Good Evening Staunton Families, I hope this email finds everyone well and healthy.  I want to take a moment to update everyone on the Governor's message released this afternoon. Today around 2:30 the Governor moved Illinois to Tier 3 mitigations which will go into effect on Friday, 11/20. By clicking on the link below you can read the Tier 3 mitigations document and what it will mean for people in our state.  https://dceoresources-ss-assets.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/public/Restore-Illinois/Tier-3-COVID-19-Resurgence-Mitigations.pdf I want to point out that on page four of this document, it clearly states the Tier 3 mitigations does NOT affect schools.  The Governor, at this time, is leaving school closures as a local decision. Right now, Staunton is one of two districts in Macoupin County currently serving students with In-Person learning.  Some  schools in our county are planning to return to In-Person learning on November 30th.   Based on our current numbers at Staunton, I do not plan on closing the schools at this time. We are doing well here compared to most districts.  As for now, we will continue with In-Person learning.  I will continue to take one day at a time and will inform you if anything changes. Have a restful evening! Cynthia Tolbert, Superintendent Have a restful evening!

In person
Dear Staunton Families, As I walk through our hallways it is great to see our students in their classrooms learning. Once again, I thank all staff for their efforts to stay healthy and report to work on a daily basis. We are treading on the most difficult time we have experienced yet this year as far as the number of COVID cases and quarantines throughout Macoupin County. On a typical day in August our county was seeing anywhere between 2-20 new cases per day. Now in November, we are seeing 50-75 new cases reported daily. In Staunton School district we are doing well at the moment which allows us to continue to be in person whereas some districts that surround us have gone to remote learning, and many districts are considering moving in this direction if the COVID numbers continue to rise. On one hand this information should serve as notice that preparations need to be made in case we have to go remote. On the other hand it should signal the importance of making sure everyone who attends school is socially distancing between each other within the school environment. Most of us agree we need to be in school. To ensure this to happen we have to be extra cautious in the weeks ahead. Please help me by protecting our students and staff by socially distancing and wearing face masks when you are around other people. Thank you for your continuous support. I am proud of what we have accomplished here in Staunton up to this point this school year, and I am confident we will continue to see great things. Take care, Cynthia Tolbert, Superintendent
