STAUNTON, IL – March 30, 2020 – The Staunton School Board of Education announced at tonight’s meeting that Cynthia Tolbert from Highland, Illinois has been appointed as the new Superintendent of Schools for Staunton CUSD #6.

      CUSD #6 Board of Education President, Kimberly Peterson shares, “The Board of Education is excited that Ms. Cynthia Tolbert will be the new leader for Staunton CUSD#6 and looks forward to welcoming her to our district and to the families that we serve.  She stood out among the highly qualified field of candidates for her passion and proven track record in making student-focused decisions that support academic success. Mrs. Tolbert has in-depth expertise in curriculum development and assessment. Her strength as a communicator and a collaborative leader focused on building positive relationships will continue her successes at Staunton.  We believe that Cindy will be a visionary leader and a great match for our staff, students and community.” 

Mrs. Tolbert has 20 years of experience in public education. She has served as a sixth grade teacher and a building principal in the Highland Community Unit School District. For the past seven years, as an administrator, Mrs. Tolbert has been involved in the development of programs focused on curriculum, student learning and achievement, professional learning communities, technology, and the successful implementation of a Standards Based Grading system.  In addition, Mrs. Tolbert currently teaches aspiring administrator classes part-time in the Educational Leadership Department at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Mrs. Tolbert is a person who holds a deep understanding of the teaching/learning process and the importance of educational technology.  She is a visionary leader who is approachable, accessible, collaborative and someone who can build trust.

Mrs. Tolbert commented, “I am excited and honored to have been chosen for this position and look forward to working collaboratively with the Staunton school board, staff, parents and community. My focus will be on doing what’s best for kids while continuing to build a positive climate and culture for students and staff. I’m committed to providing all students with an exceptional educational experience which will assist them in college, career and life.” Tolbert is married with two children. Current Superintendent Dan Cox will continue to serve Staunton CUSD #6 until June 30th and will work with Tolbert for a smooth leadership transition. Her start date will be July 1st.
