Five Facts about Staunton CUSD #6’s Plan to Improve Our High School

Fact #1

Our high school is old and out of date.

Take a tour of our high school. You will see that renovation and repair is needed — roofs, windows, doors, electrical and plumbing systems. While our high school has served many generations of students, much of it can’t be renovated in a cost-effective manner.

Fact #2

Labs and classrooms will be updated.

Much has changed in the many years since our high school was built. For it to continue serving our community, classrooms and labs need to be updated to accommodate best practices in education.

Fact #3

The safety and security of students will be improved.

Much has changed since the oldest portions of our high school were built in 1924 and 1967. Perhaps nothing has changed more than steps taken to improve safety and security for students.  If our referendum passes, safety and security features will be enhanced.

Fact #4

Our plan was produced by hard-working volunteers.

In our Bulldog Blueprint community engagement program, community members rolled up their sleeves and went to work developing an improvement plan for our high school. After reviewing the pros and cons and many options, a final plan was produced. It is a responsible plan that addresses the need to improve our high school in the most cost-effective manner possible.

Fact #5

The quality of our high school contributes to community pride and maintains property values.

Our community has provided its children with quality schools for nearly 200 years. It is well-documented that schools are the most important factor contributing to stable property values and quality of life in a community. That’s why our community is such a special place to live, raise a family and invest in homes.
