Dear Staunton CUSD #6 Families, To limit the number of outside individuals entering the building, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our In-Person School Supply Drop Off Night taking place inside the school buildings on Tuesday, August 11th. We will move forward with having our transportation shed open outside on Tuesday evening from 5 PM to 7 PM as scheduled for our families needing to obtain their child’s bus route and pick up/drop off times for the 20-21 school year. We will have extra staff available on Thursday and Friday morning to assist students to their classrooms if needed. If necessary, students may bring half of their school supplies to school on Thursday, and bring the other half of their school supplies to school on Friday. If you were unable to find supplies from your child’s school supply list due to these supplies being unavailable in stores, please send them to school once they become available. Please do not send homemade items, such as disinfectant wipes, to school with your child. We will accept store bought items only. We apologize for the inconvenience this cancellation has caused. Please know our top priority is the safety of our students, staff and school families. Thank you for your continuous support and understanding. We are looking forward to students returning to school on Thursday, August 13th!

Open House / Supply Drop-Off (Tuesday, August 11, 5:00PM-7:00 PM) Traditional Open House/School Supply Drop-Off is designed to give parents and students an opportunity to meet & greet their teachers and become more familiar with the layout of the building. We are sending this message out to encourage you not to attend Open House / Supply Drop-Off if you are familiar with the building. The goal in sending this out to you is to minimize the number of parents and students in the building. Supplies can be brought in during the first days of student attendance. If you choose to attend this event, please limit your group size to one parent and the child attending that building. Our drivers and transportation department will be available during Open House / Supply Drop-Off to answer questions and provide pick and drop off times. This year our drivers will be located at the bus garage to answer any questions on Tuesday, August 11, from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM. Thank you all for your patience and support as we work together to keep our children safe

June 23, 2020 Dear Staunton CUSD #6 Families: I hope this message finds you and your families safe and well. Since March 17th the country has endured an extremely challenging situation with COVID-19, unlike anything any of us had ever imagined. We survived the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year with scars that will likely last for years. I know that everyone is eager to know the future and how our everyday life will be impacted as time moves forward. We too have been waiting for guidance from the State regarding possible Return-To-School in August. Today, the Illinois State Board of Education released guidance for schools on the 2020-21 school year. This 60-page document has been much anticipated. It will go a long way toward answering critical questions about what the 2020-21 school year will look like in terms of in-person learning, scheduling, transportation, wearing masks, social distancing and other measures intended to keep everyone safe and healthy, while also re-engaging students in the learning process. Right now, we don’t have all the answers to those questions as this document was released to school districts today, just as it was released to the public. Therefore, we kindly ask for your patience as my administrative team and I thoroughly review this detailed guidance and implement the suggestions into our district’s transition plan. Our mission of equity compels us to ensure that all students can attend school in-person this fall to the greatest extent possible. This may require some creative scheduling, but I know our incredible teachers and school leaders are up to the task. This fall will not be business as usual. We will update our plan as needed in response to the guidance from the state of Illinois as we move into the new school year. With this being said, we must be prepared to return to remote learning if the virus surges again. In the next couple of weeks, I will create a Task Force Team which will consist of our district’s Rapid Response team, administration, parents, and Board members to help review and finalize our “Return to School” plan before releasing it to the public. We are keenly aware of the urgent need to communicate to families about what to expect next school year, and we anticipate releasing our transition plan to you no later than July 22nd. As you may know, our district has already been discussing options and identifying challenges associated with the anticipated parameters. This guidance will accelerate those conversations, and I’m confident our district will put forth a plan that prioritizes the health and safety of our students, while maintaining a dynamic learning environment. Thank you again for your patience, understanding, and flexibility as we all navigate a situation together that none of us could have imagined. I will be in touch soon. In the meantime, stay safe and enjoy your summer. Sincerely, Cynthia Tolbert Superintendent

SJH Students and Families, The 2020 Staunton 8th Grade Graduation Ceremony that has been scheduled for the month of July is cancelled. Unfortunately, after consulting with the Health Department and reviewing the Restore Illinois Plan from the Governor’s Office, this event will exceed the allowable number of people to gather in a location as we move into Phase 4. This decision is being made to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and families, which is a top priority for the Staunton School District. We appreciate your understanding during these challenging times and recognize that this is disappointing for our 8th grade graduates. Thank you.

Staunton Families, The Staunton School District in cooperation with area first responders will be conducting an Active Shooter DRILL the evening of Tuesday, August 7th at the Staunton Schools campus. The drill will involve an assailant entering the building at an unknown location and the district will activate a response though the Crisis Management Plan that involves Police, Fire, and EMS officials responding to the scene. There will be staged injuries, a triage location, and transportation of the injured to the hospital via ambulance and helicopter. Please stay away from the Staunton Schools campus between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM on August 7th to help ensure that the drill can be conducted without interruption. Again, this is strictly a DRILL being conducted to help improve the response among all stakeholders that would be involved if any threatening situation were to occur on campus. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the office. Sincerely, Brett T. Allen Principal
