Summary of Minutes

During the most recent Board of Education meeting held on Monday, August 20, 2018 Superintendent Cox presented the tentative district budget for the 2018-2019 school year for the Board’s review and consideration. The four operating funds (Education, Operations & Maintenance, Transportation, Working Cash) reflect revenues of $9,743,834 and expenditures of $9,754,239. While the budget is unbalanced, Cox noted that when budgeting at the beginning of the year the District overestimates expenditures and underestimates revenues. “It is realistic to expect the District to balance the budget at the close of the fiscal year as long as the unexpected does not occur,” Cox reported.

The budget will be on public display in the district office for 30 days prior to approval. A public hearing regarding the final budget will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 6:45pm in the District Library where Superintendent Cox will present the final budget and an opportunity will be provided for the public to make comments or ask questions regarding the budget prior to approval during the regular meeting at 7:00pm. During the “Superintendent’s Report” Superintendent Cox shared with the Board that Evidence Based Funding Calculations have been released by the Illinois State Board of Education. “Within the new calculations Staunton Schools are shown to be funded at 60% adequacy, resulting in the District remaining in Tier I,” Cox stated. Tier I districts are among the most underfunded and under-resourced districts in the state resulting in the greatest amount of state support flowing to those districts first under the new Evidence Based Funding Formula. Staunton Schools are calculated to receive $4,619,266.33 in the base funding minimum and an additional $352,485.64 in Tier Funding. In action following closed session the board recognized the resignation of Paul Cloud as a paraprofessional and approved to hire Nick Mellenthin as a paraprofessional.
