Summary of Minutes

During its' regular meeting on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 the Staunton CUSD #6 Board of Education seated the first Student Advisory Board of Education Member in SHS Senior Hollie Bekeske. It is the desire of the Board to add student voice at the District leadership level. "I'm thrilled to have Hollie as part of our leadership team," stated Superintendent Dan Cox. He added, "Last year we started a Superintendent's Student Advisory Council that made a significant difference for our District and Hollie was a big part of that. It is fitting that we have taken this next step and that Hollie gets to lead in this capacity." The Student Board Member receives the same communication as other Board members including weekly reports, meeting packets, information and updates. Student Board members are not allowed to receive information pertaining to closed session nor are allowed to participate in closed session. Student Board members serve in an advisory capacity only and are not allowed to vote. 

In other action the Board approved the annual audit and financial report. Ken Loy of Loy, Miller, Talley, PC reported that the District has earned financial recognition, the highest recognition a school district can achieve with a score of 3.8/4.0. The District has finished with positive spending for three consecutive years and raised its' days cash on hand to 4.8 months. 

In other items the Board approved the purchase of new AED Units, accepted a bid for the sale of a surplus school bus and discussed the possibility of adding a school resource officer. To learn more about these and other items see the summary of minutes on the District website.
