During the regular meeting of the Staunton CUSD #6 Board of Education held on Monday, May 20, 2019 the Board approved updates to the school calendar. Changes include waiving the Casmir Pulaski Holiday to allow for school attendance on April 11, 2020. A spring break will be recognized during the week of April 6, 2020 through April 10, 2020.

The Board approved a pay increase for substitute teachers beginning the 2019-2020 school year from $80 per day to $95 per day. “Substitute teachers are vital to the overall success of our students and schools,” said Superintendent Dan Cox. “The shortage of substitute teachers is real and significantly impacts Staunton Schools. The Board’s hopes are to retain the quality substitute teachers we currently have while attracting new substitutes to the District.” Interested applicants for substitute teaching positions may apply on the District website.

The Board is in process of filling a vacant seat on the Board of Education. Appointee candidates Keith Baker, Greg Best, Sara Gruhlke, Poonam Jain, Ryan Kilduff, Nancy Prange, Mary Jo Redfern, Emilee Schnefke, and Derrick Spudich were in attendance during the meeting. Candidate interviews will be held during closed session at special meetings scheduled for May 28 and 29, 2019. The selected candidate will be appointed during a special meeting on June 4, 2019.

In other action the Board continued its’ focus on District and school improvement by approving summer curriculum work to be completed. A salary and wage increase of 1.93% was approved for classified support personnel. And the A.R. Graiff property was approved to be transferred to the Village of Livingston in accordance with the Local Government Properties Transfer Act.
