BOE Vacancy

Staunton Community Unit School District No. 6 is accepting applications to fill the vacancy of Board of Education member resulting from no candidates running for election to fill the seat left open by former Board of Education member Dave Lamore. 

The individual selected will serve on the Board of Education from the date of appointment to April 6, 2021.

The School District’s vision and mission statement is “At Staunton Schools we expect everyone’s best! Lead-Challenge-Achieve!

Applicants for the Board vacancy must be, on the date of election or appointment, a United States citizen, at least 18 years of age, a resident of Illinois and the District for at least one year immediately preceding the election and a registered voter. Reasons making an individual ineligible for Board membership include holding an incompatible office and certain types of State or Federal employment. A child sex offender, as defined in State law, is ineligible for Board membership. On the date of appointment, applicants must also meet the following residential requirement. The applicant must reside in one of the congressional townships within the Staunton Community Unit School District #6 boundaries and not more than 3 Board members shall be elected or appointed from any one congressional township. The congressional townships are as follows:

  • Alhambra (Township 5N – Range 6W)
  • Dorchester (Township 7N – Range 7W): John Renner, Stefanie Legendre
  • New Douglas (Township 6N – Range 6W)
  • Olive (Township 6N – Range 6W): Kimberly Peterson
  • Omphghent (Township 6N – Range 7W): Janice Kinder
  • Staunton – includes Mt. Olive (Township 7 N – Range 6W): Scott Skertich, Derrick Taylor

Applicants should show familiarity with the Board’s policies regarding general duties and responsibilities of a Board and a Board member, including fiduciary responsibilities, conflict of interest, ethics and gift ban. Perspective candidates will be interviewed by the Board of Education during a special meeting to be held Tuesday, May 28 at 6:00 p.m. The two-year vacancy will be filled during a special meeting to be held Tuesday, June 4 at 6:00 p.m.
